Northamptonshire Fast Bowler Raphy Weatherall Signs Contract Extension Until 2028
Raphy Weatherall, the promising young paceman from Northamptonshire, has extended his contract with the county until the end of the 2028 season, aiming to build on his recent progress.
Northamptonshire’s fast bowler Raphy Weatherall has secured his future with the club by signing a contract extension that will keep him at the county until at least the conclusion of the 2028 season. The 21-year-old cricketer, who has shown great potential despite facing injury challenges, is eager to continue his development with the team.
Weatherall, who graduated with a law degree from Exeter University in June, has made significant contributions to the squad over the past three seasons. In total, he has played 29 matches across all formats, taking 41 wickets. His journey has not been without hurdles, as injuries have limited his playing time. However, he made a notable return in this season’s One-Day Cup, where he recorded impressive figures of 4-56 against Warwickshire in July.
Reflecting on his progress, Weatherall expressed his satisfaction with maintaining fitness throughout the season. He stated, “At a personal level, I have worked meticulously on my fitness and strength, and I’m delighted to have remained injury-free throughout the season. The new contract enables me to build on this progress, and a full-time commitment with the club can only bring greater opportunity. I am really looking forward to working with the team in the coming seasons.”
This new deal represents a one-year extension to the three-year contract Weatherall initially signed in 2024, the year he made his debut for Northamptonshire. His potential has not gone unnoticed, with head coach Darren Lehmann praising him as a “very exciting young talent with a very high ceiling.” Lehmann acknowledged the challenges Weatherall has faced with injuries but remains optimistic about his future contributions to the team.
As Weatherall continues to develop his skills and fitness, Northamptonshire fans will be keen to see how he performs in the upcoming seasons. His commitment to the club and dedication to improving his game could play a crucial role in the team’s success in county cricket.
