Matt Bloomfield Reflects on Oxford United Departure and Future Aspirations

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Matt Bloomfield has opened up about his unexpected departure from Oxford United, describing it as a “terribly disappointing” experience. Bloomfield, who had been looking forward to the new season, expressed his frustration at the sudden change in circumstances.

Having taken charge of Oxford in January, Bloomfield managed to lift the team from the bottom of the Championship table to a position of relative safety, achieving a notable 4-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday in his final home game. Despite the club’s eventual relegation, Bloomfield’s leadership brought a sense of positivity and hope to the supporters.

Building Bonds and Facing Challenges

Reflecting on his time at the club, Bloomfield noted the strong bond he developed with both players and fans. He stated, “The whole club got under my skin. The people really felt bonded to the place. What I found there was a really strong family club that the local community loves.” This emotional connection was further deepened by the tragic passing of Amelia Aplin, a young player from the academy, which Bloomfield described as a pivotal moment that brought everyone closer together.

Despite the disappointment of his exit, Bloomfield remains grateful for the experiences he gained at Oxford. He shared, “I have nothing but positive words to say about people around the club, the supporters, the players. It usually takes a lot longer to build that rapport with people.” Bloomfield’s focus now shifts to the future, as he seeks the next opportunity in his managerial career.

Looking Ahead

After taking a well-deserved break to spend time with his family, Bloomfield is eager to return to football management. He has been actively watching games and researching leadership strategies, preparing himself for the next challenge. “I cannot wait for the next opportunity to arise,” he stated, highlighting his determination to continue his career in football.

As Bloomfield reflects on his time at Oxford United, he remains optimistic about the future. He is ready to embrace new challenges and is hopeful that the right opportunity will present itself soon. For now, he cherishes the time spent with his family, but he is also keen to get back into the game that he loves.
