Marquinhos Rescues Late Draw for PSG as Bayern Munich Dominates Stuttgart
Paris Saint-Germain salvaged a point against Lille with a dramatic late equaliser from Marquinhos, while Bayern Munich showcased their attacking prowess with a commanding victory over Stuttgart.
In a thrilling encounter at Lille, Paris Saint-Germain managed to secure a 2-2 draw thanks to a last-minute equaliser from defender Marquinhos. The Ligue 1 champions, who had previously drawn with Rennes, found themselves in a challenging position after falling behind twice during the match.
Lille opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Hákon Haraldsson, following a clever reverse pass from Olivier Giroud, curled a stunning shot past PSG’s goalkeeper Matvei Safonov. Despite boasting a star-studded lineup, PSG struggled to penetrate Lille’s well-organised defence, which forced them to rely on wide play.
After Lille doubled their lead with a goal from Dilane Bakwa in the 84th minute, it seemed PSG would leave empty-handed. However, a moment of brilliance from midfielder Vitinha in stoppage time reignited hope for the visitors. His superb strike into the top-left corner gave PSG a lifeline, and just minutes later, Marquinhos headed home a cross from Vitinha to complete an improbable comeback.
Meanwhile, in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich kicked off their title defence in style with a resounding 5-1 victory over Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena. The hosts displayed their attacking prowess, scoring four goals in the second half after leading 1-0 at halftime.
Dayot Upamecano opened the scoring for Bayern, followed by goals from Michael Olise, Aleksandar Pavlovic, and Luis Díaz, showcasing the team’s offensive depth. Stuttgart’s Josha Vagnoman had a mixed night, scoring an own goal after briefly equalising for his side early in the second half.
Bayern’s commanding performance extended their unbeaten run to 15 matches, signalling their intent to dominate the Bundesliga once again after winning the title by a significant margin last season.
As the European football season progresses, both PSG and Bayern Munich will be looking to build on their performances, with PSG aiming to find consistency and Bayern seeking to maintain their formidable form.
